Professor Molly Stevens FREng FRS is a Professor of Biomedical Materials and Regenerative Medicine in the Department of Materials and Bioengineering at Imperial College London. She is an international leader in developing transformative Raman-based imaging for fundamental biology and regenerative medicine applications and has world-leading expertise in groundbreaking biosensing technologies; she has published extensively in leading journals such as Science, Nature, Nature Nanotechnology and Nature Materials; and she has significant expertise and experience in commercialisation of devices. She is a Fellow of 8 professional societies including the Royal Society (FRS) and Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng), and is a Foreign Member of the National Academy of Engineering and an International Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Science. Amongst many leadership roles, Prof Stevens is Director of the UK Regenerative Medicine Hub for Acellular Smart Materials, a UK-wide consortium involving 10 universities that research material-based approaches for regenerative medicine applications. Prof Stevens was named a Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher in Cross-Field research in 2018 and 2021, and altogether has over 420 publications with more than 42,000 citations.

Contributions to the project

Prof Stevens will leverage her expertise in biomedical-focussed Raman imaging to focus on: 1) high content interpretation of 3D Raman signals at specific developmental time points, and 2) adaptation of Raman live imaging methodologies and multivariate statistical models to track gastruloid self-organization and metabolic maturation.
